Program Description
Are we looking for success in life? Happiness? Do we seek financial or emotional stability? At a deeper more existential level, are we looking for a way out of our sorrows and fears: our disappointments, rejections and loneliness? Life often seems meaningless, dull with day to day struggle and conflict, intermittently stimulated by distractions and endless entertainment. Looking for something better and beyond all this, I may look towards spirituality; wanting to learn a more refined, rewarding, free, peaceful and loving way of life. Is this search, a concern for deeper self knowledge or yet another self delusion?
Whatever I am looking for, I may just find it! Do I find something new in spiritual inquiry, or have I found a “noble” yet effective avoidance of my inevitable condition? Am I interested in the emptiness and never-ending conflict of existence, or concerned only in being fulfilled and free from disturbance? Even as I inquire into an improved or alternative existence – is my very looking, already formed to repeat the past and inform the same old answers?
Rather than pursue what we would like to find, can we explore what is already here? Perhaps I can discover directly in observation what the nature of my inward outlook actually is. Am I alert to hidden motives, intentions and assumptions; or do I let myself be auto-guided by them? Are we looking for a fundamentally new order of living where there might be actual freedom and love; or are we content to carry on in the same conditioned existence?
This is our inquiry.
